VIDEO MAGAZINE ON THE BEST SERVICES 4 THE COMMUNITY OFFERED BY NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS COMMITTED TO SOCIAL CHANGE IN GREATER CHICAGO. A PROJECT OF www.media4community.org
On a December evening, only a few weeks ago, I found out Chicago 4 Community had a new follower on Twitter. As always, I checked the person’s profile: “Tom Tuohy, founder and CEO of DreamsForKids, a global youth empowerment organization, attorney, author, social entrepreneur.” Hadn’t I read some article about this guy – a successful lawyer in a luxurious office in downtown Chicago – who had also dedicated his own life and energy to saving thousands of kids from the street? Wasn’t his motto something about “replacing charity with opportunity… teaching at-risk kids real social entrepreneurial skills?” I immediately went to the website and… yes, it was him! I sent Tom a Twitter message right away and invited Dreams for Kids to be featured in Chicago 4 Community! A week later I was video documenting Dreams for Kids’ annual biggest event: Holiday for Hope! As soon as I arrived at the Chicago Park District’s Broadway Armory, I was catapulted into a different dimension: the atmosphere was so festive; the people looked so involved and excited; and lots of kids were running everywhere and wearing stunning face painting. Magic transpired and I felt at home. I felt as if this huge community had been waiting to welcome me. I would find out only later on that this community was made of people who were all coming from different paths of life, different shelters all over Illinois. I spent a very intense couple of hours with Dreams for Kids community at Holiday for Hope 2012. Watch this unmissable video below.
Stay tuned! ‘Dreams for Kids’ is not only an outstanding organization…. more on the next post!
