LETTER FROM THE COMMUNITY: ‘The Comprehensive Child’ Blog by Jennifer

Dear Chicago 4 Community,
I enjoyed your video magazine feature on the amazing organization Tuesday’s Child. Being a mother with a child on the Autism Spectrum I have come into contact with many families like myself seeking for resources, knowledge and a community in managing their child’s best interest. What can seem overwhelming aside from proper care and management is how to ensure your child has the best resources, interventions, therapies, physicians and communication strategies inside and outside of school.

What I think is wonderful about organizations like Tuesday’s Child is they lovingly approach the child’s best interests by giving them the support they need while acting as an important resource for schools/educators in addressing best practices for that child. The other equally important factor is supporting the parent. It’s incredibly important for the parent to have a sense of community. By providing a safe environment where a parent can share ideas/stories with one another this ultimately reduces the amount of stress while creating  a valuable resource and ultimately you become a better parent because you’re better informed and not alone.

I am a mommy blogger for THE COMPREHENSIVE CHILD where I post on Facebook, closed Facebook chat group and website all of the same name with a Chicago base/focus. I totally understand what parents like me are seeking as I’m doing this, too. I cover anything from Apraxia, Autism, ADD, Sensory Processing Disorder, what does Executive Functioning mean and how do you tackle potty training when your child has motor planning issues, how do you tackle when to medicate and what does life look like after aging out of the school system. I cover what I find useful and hope others do too. I listen to YOU out there while helping people not feel alone, not feel the stigma of the special needs umbrella and to face the challenge as a gift in a positive and loving way. I believe in educating ALL not just the special needs population too.

I thank you for sharing this important resource with your community, another great resource in the Chicago area!
