The WAREHOUSE Project and Gallery, Summit IL

Video by Clara Tomaz & Wotman Productions

When I founded Media 4 Community NFP last year it was charities like ‘the Warehouse’ that I had in my heart to serve: small startup charities that make huge efforts to provide a positive solution to the giant social issues that plague their neighborhoods. The Warehouse Project and Gallery was founded by Meredith Schilsky in 2013 as a response to the high rate of street violence and crime in Summit, IL. Apparently, Summit teenagers had the only option of joining one of the local gangs, if they wanted to be part of their community. Now with ‘The Warehouse’ local teenagers can engage in art programs – performance, poetry, music, photography, to mention a few… – and make a new community of their own blossom in the village, led by talented and outgoing Meredith Schilsky.
